Gig Guide: Fri 21st May

Fri 21st May 20:00 CLUB NME NOTTINGHAM :: THE XCERTS :: THE IRON DOOR CLUB :: SHARP KNEES

After a barrage of dates with Future of the left, Bat for Lashes, Biffy Clyro, Make Model, Cage the Elephant, Brakes, Get Cape.Wear Cape. Fly and Fighting with Wire and recent supports with Enter Shikari and Feeder, THE XCERTS are gearing up for recording their debut full length album late summer with producer Dave Eringa (Manic Street Preachers / Idlewild).

They’re a double edged sword of ferocious guitar and dainty, poetic words - a distorted pop band who fuse the influences of fellow countrymen Idlewild and Biffy Clyro with the thoughtful approach to songwriting of old school ‘emo’ bands like Jimmy Eat World and Bright Eyes. With support from Radio 1, XFM, MTV2, Rock Sound and !Kerrang, and a work ethic of epic proportions with a live show to match, these are exciting times for the Aberdeen / Exeter and Brighton based trio. “Nothing short of astonishing” - !Kerrang, “Ludicrously Punchy” – Steve Lamacq, “’The Xcerts are going to be making big strides in 2008” - Drowned in Sound

As bands go, you could easily be forgiven for thinking that The Iron Door Club had been around for a lot longer than they actually have. Within months of frontman and guitarist James Capper, bassist Aaron Leech and drummer Alex Kelly forming, The Iron Door club had built a reputable and hardcore fanbase, infamous for its fist pumping and hard drinking support of the young band - a feat most acts only ever dream of.

Cutting their teeth alongside Twisted Wheel, Pete Doherty, The Rascals, New Education and The Holloways, The Iron Door Club have been cemented as one of Derby's finest acts and with their army of catchy riffs, all consuming choruses and noiseome swagger, The Iron Door Club have been making their way around the UK playing festivals with the likes of Frank Turner and Noah and the Whale. Most notably they headlined 2009's 'In The City Show', a coveted prize shared by the likes of Coldplay, Oasis and The Arctic Monkeys. The Iron Door Club release their debut single 'Amatuers & Cheats' in February 2010 and will embark on a national tour at the same time.

Sharp Knees are an indie pop quartet based in Nottingham, England. They’re not ashamed of being a pop band. There's nothing wrong with a catchy tune or a hook that gets stuck in your ear all day. They're not pretending to be something their not.
