SPARTACUS LIVE :: 1913 :: GOOD NIGHT JUPITER :: ATLANTIC VIEW :: T.MANDRAKE

Manchester quintet 1913 have been getting some good reviews for their live shows recently, impressing many with their brooding, literate and melancholic pop. This first single comes out on new Manchester-based label Modern English, which was set up by John Robb and Johnny Jay. A series of live dates are lined up to tie-in with the release of Atlantis. Early radio support has come from BBC Introducing Manchester and Annie Mac on BBC Radio 1.

Good Night Jupiter are an exciting, fresh, Pop/Rock outfit originally formed in Bath, UK. Their catchy hooks and smooth sweeping melodies combined with the soulful lead vocals; create a unique sound that has something for everyone. From the soft, heart-felt ballads such as ‘Secret Love’, to the up-beat, funk infused ‘Killer’, it is evident from their song writing that Good Night Jupiter are ‘one to watch’. From the energy they give on stage with each performance, it is clear to see that these five lads love what they are doing and wont stop until they get enough.

T. Mandrake take their name from the flower (mandrake) whose roots (which resemble human figures) are used in magic rituals. Musically, they combine rock (and a lost ‘70s soundtrack that might include The Chicago Transit Authority, Arthur Lee’s Love and Blood, Sweat and Tears) with ‘60s Stax soul and jazz. However, a T. Mandrake song is as likely to remind you of Strange Days era Doors or Young Americans era David Bowie as it is to conjure up images of a Weill/Brechtian theatre-piece performed by The Sensational Alex Harvey Band.

T. Mandrake are fronted by half Thai, half American vocalist/guitarist Jay Zieseniss who is joined by Casper Christensen (keyboards), Mark "Monty" Garfield (drums & percussion), Claudia Georgette (vocals), Matt Hanson (guitar and backing vocals), Tad MacDonald (bass), and the ever-excellent Mandrake Horns, comprising Emma Frampton (tenor sax & BVs), Ellie Smith (trombone & BVs) and Kate Plane (trumpet, flugelhorn & BVs). Intriguingly, legendary Cream lyricist/percussionist Pete Brown is a co-lyricist and backing vocalist and also secures co-production credits for the band’s debut album From East To West And All The Rest alongside another legendary figure, Eddie Kramer, famed for his work with Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin amongst countless others.

The show will also feature bath based Atlantic View.
