Gig Guide: Fri 9th Apr

Fri 9th Apr 20:00 CLUB NME NOTTINGHAM :: THE ALVAREZ KINGS :: ARROWS :: THE FAKERS

The Alvarez Kings
So many guitars and post Libertines impersonators, all looking for their five minutes of fame while poufing their hair into sky high configurations of hairspray. Yet sometimes ears are pricked towards something decisive and skilled. A quirky set of songs with tub-thumping base lines, skuzzy guitars and punchy harmonies, all brought to you by four delicious men who are unafraid to enjoy their musical task. Labels have been pressing the band for some time now but the boys want time to perfect their tunes without too much pressure. Now the tracks are finally shaping into zippy close-knit creations. “Two To Tango” is deliberately aggressive punchy indie floor filler while “Picking Up The Pieces” is an invitation to radio play. The chemistry both live and behind the scenes has helped to create some instant classics with the groovy crowd pleaser “You, Me, Them, Us”, which was chosen Myspace Radio Track Of The Week, and the unique sound of “Is That What She Said”.

Indeed the band’s explosive live show is selling the band far and wide. Fresh from supporting bands such as The Enemy, Bloc Party and One Night Only, as well as headlining some of the best venues around including 2 slots at the infamous Club NME @ Koko, London, the sheer animal fun that exudes from the close knit gang ensures a dancing crowd everywhere they go. Volatile, tapped and ready to freak, Alvarez Kings are on a precipice that cannot fail to see them pummel the airwaves with passion and precision.

Arrows
After returning from a successful tour of the United States of America in the summer of 2007 under their previous incarnation, Seretone, the band decamped into their self-built studio to begin work on their second album. From the outset it became clear that a new sound was developing. In a conscious attempt to break away from the electro orientated sound that had defined the band previously, a new breed of organic, uplifting and emotive songs were coming into fruition, songs that were unashamedly melodic without sounding generic. And so, as 2007 rolled into 2008, with a fresh outlook and new beginnings to look forward to, Seretone became Arrows. 2009 saw Arrows European dreams set in their Mind after playing a string of shows in Hamburg, their hearts and feet are moving to the sound of a different beat. Now in a different form loosing some members, but making new friends, the mindset is still in place, to create timeless uplifting songs for the entire world to listen to rolling into 2010.

The Fakers

Armed with an unwavering intent and a sound filled with raw power. The Fakers have travelled the country and supported bands such as The Inspiral Carpets, From The Jam, Big Arm (Paul Ryder – former Happy Mondays), and many more.
With an EP due to be finished shortly and the proposed summer preview of a Dice Roll Productions documentary at the London film festival, a piece based upon the last two years in the life of the band. The Fakers are now poised to ambush the big stage that they so rightly deserve. Feel free to peruse over the Dice Roll music videos on here, listen to the music, and if you’ve not yet seen The Fakers live then watch this space for live dates and venues.
