Tue 9th Mar 19:30 REVEREND AND THE MAKERS

Reverend and The Makers are an Indie rock band based in Sheffield and is fronted by Jon McClure, nicknamed "The Reverend". In October 2006, following extensive touring and having built up a hardcore fanbase, the band signed to Wall of Sound records. Their first single “Heavyweight Champion of the World” received good airplay on Radio 1 and hit the UK Top 10, and became one of that summer’s anthems for many clubbers and festival goers alike, appealing to fans of both dance and indie.

Reverend and the Makers' music is a mix of indie guitar pop, electronica and a touch of Madchester-esque funk. Some of the Internet demos feature members of other notable Sheffield bands such as Alex Turner (Arctic Monkeys), Tim Hampton (Bromheads Jacket) and Mike Hughes (Little Ze). One of Reverend's inspirations is Manchester performance poet John Cooper Clarke and Reverend often performs his own poems, of a similar style, in between songs during his live sets. One of the B-sides to the debut single "Heavyweight Champion of the World" is a poem entitled "Last Resort" in which John Cooper Clarke and McClure read alternate stanzas. This poem was also duetted live when the band played live at Shoreditch's Spread Eagle in the first tour in May 2006.

They hit Nottingham on Tuesday 9th March as part of their 2010 UK Tour. Tickets go on sale Friday 27th November at 9am.

SPARTACUS UNPLUGGED :: 7 DAYS OF SLEEP :: MR TELEVISION :: JAY ZIESENISS :: HENRY BRILL

7 Days Of Sleep
Within a palette of stunning torch songs through to slow burning alt-folk gems, 7 Days of Sleep display equal amounts of style and substance. This band has crafted a sound that is at once old fashioned and utterly futuristic, tackling familiar subjects of love and loss with forward thinking imagery that is both fresh and original. Bryony’s keyboard skills are a perfect foil to lead singer Miele’s vocals. Her voice blends intimate restraint with a languid assuredness that is perfectly held within a sensitively crafted sound. Innovative without testing the listener’s patience, lovelorn without the angst, this is music that could make even the hardest soul want to sit by a frosted window and remember the one that got away.

Mr Television - More info TBA
