Gig Guide: Fri 4th Dec
Fri 4th Dec 20:00 TONE CLUB :: DIRTY KANVUS :: STARSCREEN :: SOS :: GREEN FOR GO
British Rock and Roll band Dirty Kanvus were formed in the year 2004, the line up, after a couple of adjustments, established itself with Larry Lupton on lead vocals, Justin Watkins on drums, Thomas Phillipson on bass guitar and Jonny Watkins on lead guitar. Dirty Kanvus write music known for having the ‘edge' and are working on their debut album, playing live shows, and getting their name about.
Hailing from Nottinghamshire, Starscreen are a blend of uplifting energetic rock with a melodic undertone. Being friends from a young age Lead Guitarist Neal Davis and Lead Singer Daz McNevin met Bass player Scott Price through a friend at college and formed Starscreen. Having lost their Drummer in 2005 they spent time looking for the right replacement and in the summer of 2005 met drummer John Kidger through an advertisement and formed Starscreen Mark2. The band began to develop their own sound taking influence from bands such as Led Zeppelin, U2, Pearl Jam, The Doors and Roxy Music. Starscreen always try to be different, every song they write has its own personality, a song has to excite and inspire people. The band has its own unique style, tending not to go for the straight ahead power chord rock, the guitar lines are varied, the rhythm section supply the groove, the lyrics are insightful and the melodies are catchy and filled with memorable hooks. All four members play an equal part in the band and this adds to the unity of the band.
Over the past year, SOS have established themselves as one of the youngest, most original and energetic collectives in the Midlands. The band have landed support slots with such acts as Foals and Dinosaur Pile-up and have performed on a festival main stage alongside Noah & The Whale, The King Blues, Young Knives, Nine Black Alps, Esser and Bombay Bicycle Club.
The band have recently returned from the studio having recorded their debut single ‘Three Two Gone’ along with B-side ‘You and I’, and will be releasing them digitally towards the beginning of autumn 2009. Physical copies will soon follow…
Fresh from recording, Green for Go have changed the way music is made in Nottingham. As well as taking influence from grunge/indie/alternative and shoegaze, the band was born of a love of the local Dub/Ska scene. Combine that with Fez's passionate bass-lines, Barney's jaunty drumming, Jade's inventive guitaring and Brad's edgy vocal, Green For Go have not only taken the Nottingham music by a storm, but they have taken it to the next level.
