Gig Guide: Sun 18th Oct

Sun 18th Oct 20:00 SPARTACUS LIVE :: FLOORS & WALLS :: KWENDE :: MEAN POPPA LEAN :: CITY BENEATH HER

Floors and Walls are a melting pot of hard rock, MCing, melodic guitars and soulful, yet hard hitting lyrics, Floors and Walls are on the cutting edge of a new sound rising from the streets of Brighton. They recently won the Global Battle of the Bands 2008, beating 26 other bands from all over the world.

It’s a brave band who dare combine sovereign-ring wearing, Carling-downing English urbanism with such funky riffs and weighty grooves. A highly original collision of disparate styles which given time to mature, could be genuinely exciting. Irritatingly good fun. KKK! - Kerrang! Magazine

If you want new, fresh and original then you’ve got it tenfold in the shape of new Urban/ Rap act ‘Kwende’. The highly talented rapper/singer/songwriter and producer is one of the most exciting acts to emerge this year. Kwende’s original and multi dimensional singing/rapping voice paired with his ability to write harmonically and extremely catchy choruses underneath a lethally tight and at times hypnotic beat set him well and truly apart. Taking influences from many different styles including reggae, funk, pop and even rock the ‘kwende’ sound is rich in colour and texture. Whilst never deviating from the urban backbone of fat beats and driving bass lines it takes our ears down a time line of popular music history.

Mean Poppa Lean
are a four-piece funk, soul and R n B based rock band who aim to re-invent all four genres and more at the same time. The band have been touring their sensational live show across the country’s sweatiest venues for two years now, and are beginning to resemble a very well-oiled but volatile machine, or possibly a beautiful but dangerous panther. Hundreds; nay, thousands have already registered their immense approval and nearly all of those who see the band are blown away.

Mean Poppa Lean have recently been offered a publishing contract by Attagirls (formed of executives from Fairwood Publishing/Opal Management) and Bucks Music. With this sort of exposure, along with record labels and producers that are lined up, the band intends to launch a full attack on the music scene at large and give their skimpy costumes, choreographed dance moves and dirty, greasy pop-funk the exposure it needs and deserves.

City Beneath Her formed in late 2008, this progressive alt-rock three-piece aim to push their musical boundaries using innovative songwriting, whilst retaining hooks that will stay in your head for a minimum of 27 days.
