Thu 30th Jul 20:00 CLUB NME :: JAMES WARNER PROPHECIES :: THE CIRCUS ELECTRIC :: THE RISKS
The James Warner Prophecies
Derby based mix of heavy rock, acoustic and indie with an original and unconventional sound incorporating flute, mandolin and violin. Their influences vary hugely, but the focus is always on great melodies and catchy hooks - an integral part of their sound. Their live set stands out far beyond the rest, delivered with energy and confidence creating a show that will leave you wanting more.
Since performing at the 'IN THE CITY' music event at the end of last year & being short listed into the last 20 from over 2000 for the MOBILE ACT UNSIGNED on Channel 4, THE CIRCUS ELECTRIC have been taking the music scene by storm, working crowds into a frenzy with their distinctly jerky guitars and off beat rhythms. Described musically as ‘Rock n Roll mingled with Rap breakouts & a good dose of Pop Shine!’, THE CIRCUS ELECTRIC are undoubtedly producing some of the most original & exciting music in the UK. Influenced by a range of other acts including The Beatles, Eminem and Jamie T, THE CIRCUS ELECTRIC are currently splitting their time holed away in the infamous Manchester based studio THE LOUDHAILER recording their forthcoming EP with notoriously underground producer MLADEN PAVLOVIC. The rest of their time is spent touring around the whole of the UK spreading their wings far and wide beyond their home town of Manchester & continuing to rapidly grow their loyal fanbase. Lead singers Sam Stockman and Angela Hazeldine are also to be recognised as fresh faced and rising UK actors who have appeared in shows including Whitechapel, Wire In The Blood and feature film Kapital. Both with an abundance of musical talent & a huge commitment to producing extremely exciting new sounds, THE CIRCUS ELECTRIC are a must experience band for 2009!
The Risks are a 4 piece band from Derby UK with a fresh and lively take on guitar based music. With their own song writing the band has their own personality and identity. Their music is a mix of dance/ indie with heavy rock rifts from the lead and powerful funk rifts from the bass. The songs have a feel of the Chilli Peppers and the Strokes mixed into it.
They have played with bands such as Little Man Tate, The Futureheads, Airbourne Toxic Event, The Rascals and The Beat. They reached the semi finals of Surface Unsigned and have had a live performance and interview on Touch FM. They played at Glastonbudget Festival in 2007 and have one of their tracks included on Profile 07; a CD of new unsigned bands. They played at a Speedway Tribute event which was shown on Sky TV where one of their tracks was chosen as the backing music for the event.
