Gig Guide: Thu 23rd Jul

Thu 23rd Jul 20:00 CLUB NME :: ESTEBAN :: ALVEREZ KINGS :: AMIFUBA

Esteban call it Desert Funk. It's what happens when you want to dance! To get up and get down to dirty funk beats, to be taken on a journey through lyrical landscapes that transport you to the hills of Santiago and the beaches of South East Asia. With touring firmly in their blood, Esteban have appeared alongside Gomez, Chumbawamba and the Young Knives. On the road is where you'll be captivated by vocalist Stephen's enigmatic performances and crazy dance moves. Enchanted by gloriously addictive pop hooks your senses are reminded of Chili's, Jamiroquai, Bee Gees, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Bob Marley and The Police. “Esteban; it’s a world sound explosion of fingerstyle funk” - TOTAL GUITAR

Alvarez Kings make the journey to Derby. So many guitars and post Libertines impersonators, all looking for their five minutes of fame while poufing their hair into sky high configurations of hairspray. Yet sometimes ears are pricked towards something decisive and skilled. A quirky set of songs with tub-thumping base lines, skuzzy guitars and punchy harmonies, all brought to you by four delicious men who are unafraid to enjoy their musical task. Labels have been pressing the band for some time now but the boys want time to perfect their tunes without too much pressure. Now the tracks are finally shaping into zippy close-knit creations. “Two To Tango” is deliberately aggressive punchy indie floor filler while “Picking Up The Pieces” is an invitation to radio play. The chemistry both live and behind the scenes has helped to create some instant classics with the groovy crowd pleaser “You, Me, Them, Us”, which was chosen Myspace Radio Track Of The Week, and the unique sound of “Is That What She Said”.

Indeed the band’s explosive live show is selling the band far and wide. Fresh from supporting bands such as The Enemy, Bloc Party and One Night Only, as well as headlining some of the best venues around including 2 slots at the infamous Club NME @ Koko, London, the sheer animal fun that exudes from the close knit gang ensures a dancing crowd everywhere they go. Volatile, tapped and ready to freak, Alvarez Kings are on a precipice that cannot fail to see them pummel the airwaves with passion and precision.
