Johnny Foreigner
Waited Up ‘Til It Was Light is the debut album from Johnny Foreigner. Confirming their prolific nature, the album has as many surprises as it does their branded form of frantic, melodic, indie-rock exuberance. Alexei’s distinctive guitar playing tears through Yes! You Talk Too Fast, a highlight of 2007’s Arcs Across The City mini album, as it does on Henning’s Favourite, an altogether heavier and more robust outing. The surprises come with the arrival of ‘Salt, Pepa and Spindarella’ which is as quietly contemplative as it is climactic; qualities echoed later on the album on the string-laden DJs Get Doubts.
The band’s rigorous touring, most recently alongside Idlewild, Los Campesinos, Young Knives, Blood Red Shoes, The Subways and Forward Russia including appearances at NME Brats, SXSW, and the Great Escape swiftly cemented last single Eyes Wide Terrified as a live favourite. Fractured melody and unpredictability collide, in characteristic Johnny Foreigner fashion, before erupting in a juggernaut chorus that a 100 Broken Windows-era Idlewild would have killed for. With the Arcs Across The City mini album having been rapturously received with plaudits such as Kerrang!’s album of the week, The Fly’s single of the month and both Artrocker’s Single Of The Month and Album Of The Month, their debut full length documents the band’s continual rise in fine fashion.
Sometimes a band comes along that you want to obsess over, collect all the B-Sides, search out the demos. They’re very few and far between, but, almost certainly, this is one of them.
“Forward-thinking young guitar-slingers...turbo-charged, noisy and downright promising” 8/10 NME
"…a breathless, deathless rush of possibilities, Ritilan rock exploding with ideas and imagination." 4/5 Kerrang!
"The interplay between the dual male and female lead vocalists is as excitingly fresh noise as this reviewer has heard all year." 9/10 Rock Sound
“Some of the most exciting indie-pop sounds put to record by a British band in a long while… domestic debut release of the year – hands down.” 8/10 Drowned In Sound
Dananananaykroyd
Dananananaykroyd’s mini-album ‘Sissy Hits’ is now out through Holy Roar who jumped at the chance to release this six track mini-album from one of the most exciting new British bands around right now. There are few bands around who bring together the punk and hardcore spirit together with interesting indie rock in the way Dananananaykroyd do. Their rawness is matched only by the perfect amount of pop thrown in as well.
The band have had two sold-out singles on Moshi Moshi and Jealous Records already under their belts, their first "Totally Bone", was the first of Moshi Moshi's singles club (Hot Club de Paris, Architecture in Helsinki, Bloc Party). They have also had support from Radio 1 and XFM, press with NME, Plan B, Stool Pigeon, The Fly, Vice, Art Rocker and shows and tours with The Bronx, Good Shoes, No Age, Deerhoof, Franz Ferdinand, The Futureheads, Foals and more. These six songs represent the strongest, most cohesive representation of the bands work yet, their post-hardcore anthems have been kicking us in the guts ever since we started listening to them and we can’t wait to let them start kicking everyone else as well.
"In short, they f*****g rock" – The Fly
"These are the best twenty minutes of music you'll hear all year" – Drowned in Sound 10/10
"See them now, because they’re worth it" – Plan B Magazine
"Like Shellac playing S Club 7 with the fun factor turned up to 11" – NME
My Psychoanalyst
My Psychoanalyst are a querky bunch of, as they themselves put it, “old and new friends making noises that sound nice”. They inhabit Derby and have made the journey to Maide Vale to record a session for Huw Stephens Radio 1 show. They claim their influences are Gingsters pasties, as well as Broken Social Scene, Do Make Say Think and Johnny Foreigner. Double A side single “We Disagree/Panophobia” is available on shiny circle right now.
