Gig Guide: Wed 2nd Jul
Wed 2nd Jul 19.30 Edison / The Tunics / The Piccadillys / Sable Dawn
The Tunics
With the stripped down sound of drums, bass, guitar and vocals as the basis of each song, the Tunics mix stomping high voltage tunes of hope with dark tales with wit and suspicion, occasionally falling into more melancholic, quieter times that talk of boredom and momentary defeat.
There is a kind of honesty that runs through everything the Tunics do. These are not working class heroes, nor are they posh boys pretending to be something they’re not. They are a young band that came together through a common love for music. “Every gig I am putting my heart on my sleeve” Joe reveals, “There’s a reason for every lyric and when you’re playing you remember why you wrote it. It’s all very natural”
Edison
4-piece rock band based in Derby. Fresh from winning the 2008 Derby Battle of the Bands.
It's not just the well written tunes; or the lead singer's relentless energy; or the urgency of the songs juxtaposed with deliberate drops in pace; it's simply how well put together the whole set is. They appear to mix it up, even though generally the songs tend to be of a similar influence. An influence which dips very largely into the current American market - I hear the Foo Fighters while my mate hears Incubus - There's some home grown offerings too, like Lost Prophets, bit's of Muse and a Radiohead vibe. The lead singer comfortably sings, thumps his guitar and entertains whilst the rest of the band coolly get on with it. - Hank Lacerton
"Radio Nothing is a great track! The energy spills over the edges with the raw vocals soaring above the cross-rhythms of the ‘Biffy Clyro meet Jet’ instrumental parts underneath. This is a biting track that demands the full attention of the listener - great stuff." - Matchbox Recording
The Piccadillys
Formed at the end of 2007. The boys have been busy building a solid fan-base on the London and university circuits alongside bands such as The Hoosiers, Rumblestrips, and The Twang. 'The Piccadillys sound like The Arctic Monkeys meeting The Fratellis in a London boozer for 10 pints, pie & mash and a punch-up at closing time.' Woo Hoo!
Sable Dawn - 5-piece rock band located in Duffield, near Derby. They have played many gigs ranging from village fairs and school events to private parties and small venue-based gigs.
